Different Types of Cabinetry

When designing a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom or living room, it is important to know the different types of cabinetry available. Aside from that, it would be easier to choose the right cabinetry for you. For high end cabinetry with quality craftsmanship and attention to fine detail, The French Refinery is the best choice!

Types of Cabinetry

Although there are many types of cabinetry, they all share the same three basic types:

Base Cabinetry

The base cabinetry is usually 36 inches tall and has a 4-inch rise (called a “toe kick”) underneath the door. This cabinetry is installed underneath your kitchen countertops or bathroom vanity.

Wall Cabinetry

Wall cabinetry is a type of cupboard that placed closer to the eye than others. It measures 12 inches deep and is the same width and height as base cabinetry, with the exception of custom designs.

Tall Cabinetry

Tall cabinets are basically a base cabinet that has an additional height to store brooms and provide pantry space. They measure on average 84 inches in height.

These are only a few options. You can customize specialty units to suit your needs. Specialty units are often required in kitchen design, such as corner cabinets and suspended units.

Cabinet Quality Grades

There are four types of cabinets based on the quality of their construction: ready to assemble (RTA), stock and custom. You will need to decide upfront how much money you want to invest in cabinetry. Next, browse the available cabinetry options and lines within your budget. They range from $50 per foot to $500 per foot. No matter if you’re buying stock or custom cabinets, ensure that the construction is sound. Needless to say, a well-built, affordable cabinetry can be stunning and well-suited for many purposes.

Ready-to-Assemble (RTA)

These cabinets are readily available and can be purchased in boxes from home depots. They are limited in style, material, and size. Not only that, you can save significant money on RTA cabinets if you’re skilled in home improvement projects. However, RTA cabinetry is not durable over the long term. You should be familiar with how to construct and install RTA cabinets if you’re thinking of purchasing them.

Stock

You can purchase stock cabinets pre-zed directly from the manufacturer. They are an economical and basic option. In addition to that, we at The French Refinery can provide you with modified stock cabinets. They are pre-made and come in fixed sizes. Also, stock cabinets come in sizes that are specific to your needs, and measured in increments of 3 inches. Material options for stock cabinets vary depending on which manufacturer. The materials used are usually particleboard with plastic laminates, melamine or solid wood. There are a limited number of accessories available for stock cabinets. Stock materials may not meet the highest standards, and they aren’t made from valuable woods. However, well-purchased stock cabinets can offer stylish and affordable design without sacrificing quality.

Custom

Custom cabinetry, which is a high-end option, can be completely custom-made and comes in a variety of styles, materials, finishes, and accessories. These cabinets can be made to order with unique sizes and creative design solutions. Also, they are perfect for any space. The precision of these cabinets is comparable to English Imperial standards. They are precise and have exact measurements down to the 32nd inch. Professional cabinet makers can make it in any size, shape, depth, or finish that you want. There are no limits to the possibilities.
